What's the Law of Attraction all about?
The Law Of Attraction is a popular topic in a wide range of social circles these days. There are literally thousands of web pages and blog entries related to the law of attraction. The movie The Secret has added greatly to the level of public interest in this topic. You are probably already aware that the so-called Secret is the Law of Attraction.
So what is this Law? And who made it a law anyway? And, come to think of it, is it something I can consciously use to get what I want?
The Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction is based on the idea—considered to be a truth in many ancient cultures—that human beings are not simply experiencing an independent external reality coming toward them and existing around them out there in the world. The Law of Attraction states that reality is something constructed within our perception—within the mysterious confines of our consciousness. Perception itself is somewhat of a mystery to most human beings. Our perception—collectively as a humanity, and personally as an individual—determines the nature of everything we do and don't experience, see, taste, smell, think, touch, etc.
The Law of Attraction also incorporates the fact that we live in a highly intelligent and entirely interconnected universe. No-thing is independent from any-thing else. There is but one consciousness unfolding and one Awareness evolving through that consciousness unfolding. You and I are individual units of that Awareness that through an act of perception experiences itself is independent from other units of Awareness. It is this absolute interconnectedness of all things and none-things that ensures our every experience is happening through us and not to us. Put another way, every-thing is happening for you and not to you.
In the Huna tradition of ancient Hawaii there is the truism that, "Energy flows where your attention goes". It is also said that, "Where our energy flows, things grow". How this relates to the Law of Attraction is that what I give my personal energy to is what will grow in my experience of Life. If I focus on the things I don't like and I struggle with these things and invest a lot of my personal power in trying to change these things, I will in effect only further grow them in my life. Therefore, the Law of Attraction suggests one only focus and give energy to—or give our attention to—that which we actually want more of and that which is life-giving (that elevates the process of Life).
Why is this a secret?
Well, actually it is not a secret. What's more, people have not been unaware of the Law of Attraction due to a small group of people conspiring to keep it a secret. This notion, in my opinion, was simply some intriguing hype within the movie The Secret—what one might call the hollywood factor. Nothing more.
All universal laws and principles are available to every human being. It is our Divine right to have access to those aspects of reality that affect our us as human beings. Many of us are, however, quite unaware of much of what is available to us. Presently most people's consciousness is such that we only perceive a small fraction of what we could perceive were our consciousness different. As a human being evolves his or her awareness and his perception changes, he is able to incorporate more of what was previously the unknown dimension of reality into the known dimension of reality. Things like the Law of Attraction become available at a certain point in this process.
Many mystics, Saints, holy men, spiritual masters, and the like have discovered the Law of Attraction through this process of revelation within their own consciousness. It was not a secret, it was simply hidden behind the veil of their ignorance. This is quite normal and natural, just as it is quite normal and natural to one day wake up to these laws.
